My Husband has Low Sperm Count; No My Wife Is Barren –Couple Trades Blame

Please separate us, my wife can’t bear children, Isaac Ahmed, a middle-aged man living in Abuja is seeking divorce from his wife of 10 years allegedly due to her inability to bear children. But Ahmed’s wife, Asma’u denied the childlessness was her fault. She told the Gwagwlada Customary Court that Ahmed had been diagnosed with chronic low sperm count, making him unable to get her pregnant.

Asma’u, a teacher with the Federal Government College, Kwali, Abuja, told the court that she is still willing to continue with the marriage despite her husband’s health condition. She said she got married to Ahmed in 2002 but could not have a child in the first two years of the marriage. The development forced them to seek medical attention and it was discovered that Ahmed had “chronic low sperm count” and thereafter went for an operation at her expense.

According to her: “Though my husband was showing some strange behaviour, we were still leaving together peacefully. Throughout this period, I was the one fending for the family until I assisted him to get a job in the Secondary Education Board.” “I am against divorce on any ground,” she maintained.

Following the wife's position, the case was adjourned to December 17, 2012 for further hearing.
