Why I had to Switched From R & B – Iyanya Mbuk

In December 2008, Iyanya Mbuk simply called Iyanya, was crowned winner of the maiden edition of MTN musiccal talent hunt, Project Fame West Africa. Fast forward four years later, after a sojourn in the musical wilderness, he bounced back with what has been dubbed a monster hit by all standards, ‘Kukere.’
In an interview with BBC’s Fidelis Mbah, the Cross River native Iyanya talks about his music career and why his style of music haschanged.

According to the singer, to remain relevant in the scheme of things, he had to switch from R&B (a genre he was recognized for) to a more upbeat tempo because “Nigerians want music they can really dance to” and indeed, they are dancing as he smiles to the bank.
It would be recalled that last week, Iyanya received a N3 million cheque from Mtech Communications for breaking the record of the highest caller tunes download in Africa for his break through song, Kukere.
