Banks Shut Down shop in Asaba over robbery scare

COMMERCIAL banks in Asaba, Delta State capital,  yesterday, closed look for few hours following strong  rumours in the town that armed gangs were threatening to storm the banks, just as courts have already been placed under close security watch following Monday's escape of two condemned robbers from the courtroom.

Although, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Lucky Uyabeme dismissed the speculation of impending attack on banks, bank officials and customers were still gripped with fear, while plain-clothes armed security personnel were found lurking within and outside the lender premises.

Uyabeme told reporters: “Though police learnt that a number of the banks did not open because of the rumour, we affirm that it was baseless. We are on top of the situation.”
