Discrimination Of The Highest Order: British Airways Refuses To Get Family On Board, Claims Child is Too Fat To Travel

A German family who came to the United States for medical treatment said they were trapped in Chicago after British Airways claimed their child was too fat to fly. Kevin Chenais, 22, spent a year and a half at the Mayo Center for treatment of a hormone disorder which led him to 500 pounds. His mom was near tears as she defined the family's issues to the local CBS affiliate.

“We put the blame on British Airways because now they only leave us, and they brought here,” Christina Chenais told the station.
“If they can carry him here with this problem in economy, there clearly was a method to take him back by economy but only get him back home for his medical remedies to continue.”

The family spent one week within an airport lodge attempting to solve the problem and, running out of money, has decided their only solution would be to take a train to New York and get back to France on the Queen Mary sail ship.

Kevin Chenais requires round-the-clock air and medical attention.

“I am certain lots of big persons like me or larger can not go on vacation since they have the same problem,” he told the station, head hanging down as he sat up in bed.
“This time before leaving I had a feeling something may go wrong."

A British Airways spokesperson told CBS that its customer support staff “labored zealously to find a solution.” “Unfortuitously, it is not possible to properly provide the client on some of our airplane,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The Chenais family didn't straight away get back a request for comment.
