Security operatives have arrested eight foreign terror suspects in relation with the bomb attack in Nyanya, Abuja on Thursday.
The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade, said in an electronic mail on Saturday that the suspects were arrested during a joint surveillance operations carried out by the security operatives in Abuja.
He said the suspects were arrest at Kugbo, close to the site of the two bomb blasts that rocked the Federal Capital Territory recently.
“In Abuja, eight persons are currently being interrogated after raid operations by troops of security agencies on joint surveillance and patrols mission in the Federal Capital today.
“The arrested persons are helping ongoing investigation with useful information after the operation which is sequel to intelligence reports. Most of those arrested are foreigners who were picked up around Kugbo and areas adjoining the Nyanya site of the recent bombings in the Federal Capital.”
Meanwhile, human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, has rejected his appointment as a member of the presidential committee to investigate the abduction of over 270 female pupils of Government College, Borno State, by suspected members of Boko Haram.
In an electronic statement to SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria said, “I have accepted the request to collaborate with an international human rights organisation, which is currently mobilising diplomatic and political support for the release of the abducted girls from the captivity of the nihilist forces.
“In the light of the foregoing, I regret my inability to accept the appointment to serve on the committee to determine the number of the missing girls. However, I urge the President (Goodluck Jonathan), the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to direct the Joint Task Force to intensify the military campaign to secure the release of the girls.”
