The Afrobeat artiste & son of Fela Kuti, took time out of touring (he’s in Calgary, Canada right now) to write an angry memo to Nigerian “bloggers”. The memo is in response to the story about him allegedly having an issue with Flavour N’Abania over the latter’s MTV MAMA award win for Best Live Act.
To be fair I felt Seun’s instagram post about the Best Live Act award was directed more at MTV Africa than Flavour.
However about an hour ago, Seun wrote on Facebook

Waje, Seun Kuti others take to the streets

 Waje and Seun Kuti have taken their #BringBackOurGirls campaign from the streets of Twitter to the streets of Lagos. The stars both took placards in hand to go against the kidnap of 234 young Nigerian girls fourteen days ago. Earlier the group were reportedly tear-gassed by the police, they continue steadily to March though.

Other celebs noted in the march include Kathleen Ndongmo, Cameronian activist, Debola Williams of The Future Project & designer Ugonna Omeruo amongst others. See more pics following the cut

The youngest son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti and new father Seun Kuti tells City People mag about the limitations his dad’s name has brought to his music career….

“I dont believe that being Fela’s son has helped my career. Yes I am fela’s son. Yes I grew up to love music through him. Most people believe it’s easier looking in, when you are out. Everything just seems easier that way. But I keep saying that the fact that I am Fela’s son, for me it didn’t really help me musically. The fact that I am Fela’s son has brought me more stress than good fortune.

Son of  Afro-beat king, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who died 15 years ago, Seun, has condemned the ban of marijuana and cigarette, adding that the position of the law on the two products was illogical. According to Seun, the favoured cigarette has lethal consequences, while the legally opposed marijuana was medicinal and good for human consumption. But, Seun said, the lethal cigarette was favored simply because it was to the white man’s profit, stressing that marijuana would make black countries richer than the white if legalized.
