The Texas girl who was the horrific victim of gang rapes at age 11 is now 14 and seven months pregnant.
Twenty men and boys were accused of repeatedly raping the girl in 2010 in the small town of Cleveland, about 50 miles northeast of Houston.
Most of the suspects pleaded guilty or have been convicted. The accused included two high-school sports stars.
The girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend say they intend to raise the child, the girl and her mother told KHOU TV.
But her mother is not pleased.
“Well, when she came with the pregnancy test, I was like, ‘Go away, get away from me, I was upset, the girl’s mother, Maria, told the Houston station in a segment broadcast late Tuesday.
Police said this derelict trailer was one of two locations where an 11-year-old girl was repeatedly gang raped in Cleveland, Texas, a small town about 50 miles from Houston.
The girl had been placed in foster care after police began investigating the the attacks in 2010.
The horrendous details of how men and boys lured the girl to area homes and repeatedly raped her over a period of months grabbed international headlines.
The child ran away from her group foster home in 2011 and lived on the streets for eight months.
Timothy Daray Ellis pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of child in 2012 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the gang-rape case of an 11 year-old girl in Cleveland, Texas.Twenty men and boys were charged, most pleaded guilty or have been convicted.
She has not been identified because of her age.
In 2012, she moved in with her mother, who says she can understand why her daughter sought solace in the arms of her young boyfriend.
“Yeah, I am sure there’s a lot of people wondering about all that,” the girl’s mother said. “I see it this way, I think it’s pretty common that sometimes girls, when that happens to them, they try to find the comfort in someone else, like they want to feel loved.”
The young girl’s boyfriend isn’t facing any charges because under Texas law, consensual sex between two minors close in age is not a crime.
