The 48-year-old victim at first told police officers that he had been on “The Block”, referring to the area near the Triangle Square shopping center, when he was attacked by four men, one of whom had a knife. He later admitted he made up the story, and said that the assault actually occurred outside a gas station on Commerce Road, police said.
The man stopped at the gas station after he saw a woman with a large behind and “wanted to chat with her,” an officer wrote in an incident report.
A man then came out of the store, while the victim was talking to the woman. After the men exchanged words, the suspect struck the victim in the face, according to the report.
The victim told police that he responded by hitting the other man with a punch in the face. The man then stabbed him as he walked to his truck, according to the report.
The victim then drove himself to the hospital, where he was interviewed by police.
“The victim said he was dishonest with us because he did not want his wife to know where he was,” police said in the incident report.
Officers went to the Shell gas station and found blood on the floor, where the victim claimed he was attacked, police said. He described his attacker as a tall black man, with long hair.
