About three months before when the overseer of Mountain of Liberation Ministry at Ereke Street, in Ojodu part of Lagos State, Prophet (Dr.) Bob Okafor broke the news of his abduction in a phone conversation on his way from Awka, the Anambra State capital where he had gone for a crusade, the congregation shuddered with fear.
Afterwards, and having paid a ransom of N50 million from the church's savings to the expected kidnappers to secure his discharge, a number of the church people came to find out that the kidnap history was a ruse. We were told that what informed their place was that after they went to receive their pastor at th Lagos airport, he bore no indication that he was actually kidnapped.
Instead, he looked new, and properly fed. Their confidence was also on the basis of the proven fact that the stays of one of the pastor's safety escorts who he explained was killed in crossfire has not been seen, and neither his personality identified until date.
That has been the history of Pastor Bob Okafor proposed kidnapping. The newest is that he is embroiled in a new conflict with the Igbano household over two-and-half plots of land at Gbolahan Akinmuda Street, Magodo Stage 1.
It just happened that Mrs. Igbano, a person in Mountain of Liberation Ministry, put the land, which belongs to her younger brother who lives in Switzerland up for sale, but customer wasn't found, and she decided to get religious help from her pastor who requested her to bring a small part of the land's sand in a polythene case to him for prayer.
And as they were hoping with Mrs. Igbano's eyes shut, it is said that Pastor Bob stealthily set a tortoise in the polythene case, that was in his possession. Then informed the woman to open her eyes, and the case, and to her shock she found a tortoise in it.
At that point, the pastor now informed her in regards to the religious implication of the tortoise in the sand. That he allegedly claimed that the woman might die if she offered the land, or developed anything there, saying that she must give it to the church instead.
Mrs. Igbano believed her pastor's ‘tales by moonlight ', and recoiled in terror, and sometime this past year, 2011 she gave out her younger brother's landed property to the church having informed her brother that land speculators had seized it.
Since he believed Mrs. Igbano possesses the land, which is valued at about N80 million, Pastor Chris thought he's struck gold, and started to erect an personal amazing 19-bedroom duplex on the land, which he completed, and moved in to early that year. He also tried to perfect the land file in his own favor at Lagos State Ministry of Lands.
But, some people of the Igbinos, and the land operator who lives in Switzerland were shocked if they heard about the land present to the pastor, and lately moved against it. They petitioned the Special Scam Unit at Milverton in Ikoyi, alleging that Pastor Bob received the land below false pretences.
Our finding unmasked that Pastor Bob used to call home in a 3-bedroom rented residence at Adekunle Ajuwon Street at Asore in Ajuwon, an Ogun State suburb before he moved to his mansion in Magodo. It had been there, he perfected the artwork of obtaining by tricks.
Even in his church, Mountain of Liberation, which congregation has over three thousand, he presented programmes such as GIVE ALL TO JESUS where regular worshippers are encouraged to offer each of their regular salaries to the church, and FIRST HARVEST where they're requested to offer their first salaries to the same church every New Year.
Exactly the same ‘person of crime'requests that every church member must give at the least a thousand naira as offering on every Sunday Service in the church.
