A
Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Saturday sentenced a
former Chairman of Davi local Government Region, Mr. Enesi Jimoh, to 6
months in prison without a choice of fine. Justice I. Elizabeth Ekwo
convicted the politician after finding him guilty of transforming ₦7m
belonging to the council to personal use while in office.
The cash was meant for the provision of borehole for communities in the council area. Enesi
was arraigned by the Financial and Financial Crimes Commission, along
side a former Commissioner for Agriculture of their state, Samuel Ojo,
in March 31,2010. However,
Ojo was released by the judge after having a no-case submission was
registered by the defence counsel, H.O Agumbiodun in July 2012.
One
of the fraud charges against Jimoh reads,
“That you Enesi Jimoh Suleman, while helping as government Chairman of Davi local Government Region, turned N7m, property of Davi Regional Government Region, concealing its illicit origin and thus committed an offence contrary to part 14 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2004 and also punishable under part 14 of same Act.”
