Child Abuse: Security Guard Tortures 10yr-old Cousin For Several Hours For Bed-wetting (Pics)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old security guard, Joy Amodu, for allegedly torturing her 10-year-old cousin, Foziya Danjuma for several hours till the little girl fell unconscious. All because Foziya peed on her bed on February 28, 2014.
According to the police, the suspect as punishment, used a spatula to beat the 10-year-old and inserted Aboniki balm (methyl salicylate ointment) inside her private parts and her eyes. The suspect also allegedly inflicted teeth bites all over the girl’s body. It was after the girl fainted during the beating that her aunt rushed her to a hospital in the Ajah area, but she was rejected.

Immigration tragedy: FG offers victims’ families automatic employment

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed that three employment slots be reserved for the families of those who died during the stampede that occurred during the recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service on Saturday nationwide.  Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Wednesday at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting which was devoted to the incident. He said one of the three beneficiaries must be a lady.

An 18-year-old girl and mother of one, Kate Ajie, has been arraigned before a Rivers State court over assault and child abuse  to her five-year-old daughter, Divine.
The 18-year-old mother was said to have seriously beaten her five-year-old daughter to the extent that a concerned neighbour who accused the mother of constant maltreatment had to involve the police by taking the girl to the Divisional Police Officer, Mohammed Suleiman Baba on February 21.

… AS LAGOS COMMENCE ANOTHER ROUND OF INDOOR RESIDUAL SPRAYING (IRS) EXERCISE AGAINST MALARIA

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, has stated that no fewer than 3.5 million people resident in the State have been protected against malaria through the State government’s integrated vector management programme, the indoor residual spraying and larviciding exercise aimed at combating malaria in the State.

Idris, who made this known over the weekend at a press briefing to signal the commencement of another 40 day indoor residual spraying (IRS) exercise in six local government and 13 local council development areas (LGAs/LCDAs) of the state, noted that since year 2010 when the IRS exercise commenced, no fewer than 49,003 households have been sprayed.

Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ikedieze popularly called Aki who got conferred with the MFR title by President Jonathan in July 2010 says the national title doesn't have any visible benefits to him. Aki in a talk with Yes! magazine this week said there's no monetary value or special benefits to the title as obtained in western countries.

"The only joy in it is the recognition. When I am traveling and I get to the Airport, I get special preference and recognition. Apart from that, I don't get any other thing. I don't get paid, I don't get any special benefits as an MFR. As an MFR, I hold the same position with some of those who are Members of the British Empire (MBE) and they have some special benefits in the international community and honourary recognitions but those things are not here" he said.
