The sale of kidneys by desperate Nigerians is becoming another national export and a brand that threatens to further entrench the country’s image as full of money-seeking citizens with no scruples.
Now, mostly in Malaysia and India, Nigerians in droves, line up to be tested in the hope that their kidneys would be deemed good enough to be donated to a sick person. The two Asian countries that have become favoured destinations of Nigerians have also become favoured places of treatments for Europeans and Americans for diseases related to kidney.
Investigations revealed that there were a lot of people in the queue in Malaysia, most of them Nigerians, who have gone to sell their kidneys.

Those who took the risk of selling their kidneys needed money desperately to start something that will turn their lives around back home. This trend seems to be the latest threat facing Nigeria’s image as the country that battles Youth unemployment and deep rooted poverty which is the cause of this trans-national deadly trade.
Investigations also show that unrepentant Yahoo Boys who have been unlucky in the scam business of late have now turned to selling their kidneys for survival. They are the ones who readily advertise themselves as willing sellers on the internet. The desperate guys give out various information including their age, marital status and a kidney test detailing the condition of their kidney.
Perhaps, the biggest threat is the danger these young Nigerians subject themselves. Most of the people involved, we gathered die even before they start enjoying the money from the deadly trade. Although a normal human being has 2 kidneys, it is common knowledge that a man can survive on only a kidney and still lead a normal life.
However, all these depends on the specific mediation and mother luck being on the side of the person.

However typical of many young Nigerian men, the moment they get into the country, they go on crazy spending spree and unnecessary binges and living reckless lives which in turn takes the toll on the only kidney left. The stress has been attributed to the cause of death of many of these young men.
