A n*aked European artist nailed his own testicles to the bottom in a strange protest against his country's authoritarian regime. Self-styled performance artist Pyotr Pavelnsky hammered a sizable material fingernail through his scrotum and into the cobblestones in front of Moscow's Red Sq as hundreds of horrified tourists observed.

Police ultimately covered him up with an umbrella before taking him from the scene. He was taken to a clinic for therapy and placed under arrest.   Pavelnsky has formerly conducted uncomfortable protests to highlight political causes. In 2011 he made his lips together to highlight the predicament of the jailed Pussy Riot group and he later wrapped his naked human body in barbed line outside a government structure in E Petersburg.
