The General Overseer of the Deeper Religious Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, has again warned people of the church against celebrating Xmas, expressing the annual party of Xmas is idolatrous and unscriptural. Kumuyi warned that partaking in the party made Christians to return from the commandment of Jesus Christ. The cleric claimed that on Saturday at the annual national December meeting of the church, which held at the church's camp land in Ogun State.

He said,
"We don't celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don't hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.
"When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don't find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don't find that in the church either. If you don't know that before, now you know."
He informed that the church leaders that attempted to add the "idolatry of Xmas" into any portion of the church will be sanctioned, while also stimulating different believers in Christ to jettison the party included in their sacrifice to perfection. Kumuyi claimed the job of the church was to create people a lot more like Jesus Christ and perhaps not interact worldly celebrations.
But the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, in his reaction to Kumuyi's proclamation, said, "I don't know what he means by saying the practice of celebrating Christmas is wrong."We are not trying to make the church turn like the world. We want it to be like Jesus Christ, and more like the Apostles. If you don't have that mind with us, then you have permission to go to other places," he added.
"Is he saying that Christ wasn't born? That he didn't come to die for us? Does he not celebrate his own birthday? Do Kumuyi's pastors not celebrate him? It is not everything I react to; some people just seek attention. If Kumuyi is a Christian, then he must believe in Christ.
"The celebration of Christmas didn't just start today; it is too public an event for anyone to say that they don't know what it is about.
"If Kumuyi is condemning the commercialisation of Christmas, I can understand that. Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God's promise."
"I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement."
The spokesperson for the Christian Association of Nigeria, Oshodi part, Lagos State, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi, stated that Xmas was worth celebrating. Otoibhi informed one our correspondents in a phone appointment that the source of Xmas wasn't as crucial as their essence.
He said,
"The origin of Christmas, as we know it, could be traced to Roman Emperor, Constantine. Christmas was a day for celebrating the Sun God. However, because Constantine was a Christian, the day was changed to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
"The tradition has continued to date and since the aim of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus since there is nothing bad in honouring Jesus. Also, the worship of the Sun God was done in Rome and not everywhere in the world, so it is not part of our history.
"We mark Christmas with the singing of songs as a day, which has now been consecrated."
While I am not a follower of Pastor W. F Kumuyi, I want to point out that what he said about Christmas is very correct. The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, is not concurrent with the Christian faith. He is only speaking according to their church dogma. Its a pity when men who are not scripturally and spiritually enlightened are occupying such positions that mislead people. Every sincere scholar of the Bible knows that Roman Catholicism is a mixture of some aspects of the Christian Faith and Paganism. It is true we all have birthday's we cerebrate, but the question begging for answer is; who instituted Christmas? God or men. If you say it is God, why then didn't He give us the exact date in the Bible. There's no where in the entire Bible that tells us Jesus was born on December 25. This is very suggestive. If the celebration of Jesus birthday is so important to God, how come He never told us the exact date in the entire Bible? This Christmas which people are celebrating is it God who asked us to celebrate it? Since it is not God, why celebrate something which God never instituted. You see,serving God is not based on common sense as a lot of people think. It is based on the revelation He has made available to us in His word. Since we know that Christmas and Christmas celebration is not of God, then it means it is man made. Some religious people came together many centuries ago and agreed that they were going to introduce Christmas ideology into the Church in order to extend or immortalize their pagan practices of the Babylonian Mystery cult.
ReplyDeleteEaster, Saints Day, Lent, and many other dogma practiced by the Roman Catholic Sect are all pagan oriented. I am not here to condemn anybody. Truth is truth, you can never change it no matter how much people try to cover it up. I dont believe in Roman Catholicism. the word of God is the final authority not what their Pope says. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in His Birth, Death and Resurrection. However, Christmas or Christmas Celebration has nothing to do with Jesus Christ or His birth. As a matter of fact the word CHRISTMAS is an error. It is a combination of two words, CHRIST and MAS. The word "Mas" is from a Latin word which means Re-Crucifixion, or to Crucify Afresh. So you can see that the literal meaning of the word Christmas means; CHRIST RE-CRUCIFIXION. I thought they said CHRISTMAS means the birth of Christ. But as you can see, the meaning of the word doesn't imply so. The word means CHRIST RE-CRUCIFIXION. If you are honest enough with yourself I suggest you study your Bible properly, rather than allow yourself wallow in ignorance. Remember the the deceiver of men, and religion is his greatest tool of deception. Have you wondered, the early Church never celebrated Christmas, if they did it would have been indicated in the New Testament scriptures. This implies that the concept of Christmas never had it origin with the true Apostles and Disciples of Jesus Christ/the Church. This means that the concept of Christmas was something added some time later by some religious folks after the departure of the Apostles. Many other Church denomination have borrowed this pagan practice of Christmas from the Roman Catholic sect. Its a pity.
