Confirmed: ASUU finally calls off strike




 The news filtered in yesterday but it wasn't confirmed. It's now been confirmed. After more than five months, the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has officially called off its strike action starting from today November 17th.  The strike was called off after a meeting in Minna, Niger State yesterday, days after ASUU signed a new agreement with the Federal Government. Congratulations, students!

ASUU News - ASUU Disrupts Lectures In UNIBEN



 There was pandemonium at the University of Benin today Monday December 9th as members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) UNIBEN chapter disrupted anongoing lecture at the Faculty of Law at the university.Some UNIBEN lecturers resumed last week following the Federal Government’s directive to resume work and as one lecturer gathered his students to begin his class, The Union members stormed the lecture room and stopped it.The Vice Chancellor of the University was forced to call the police to intervene but the unrelenting ASUU task force members clashed with them, putting an end to all on-going lectures at the University. ASUU Latest Gist: ASUU set to Pause about 4 months Strike this week !!



Clues have emerged that the  Academic Staff Union of Universities may possibly pause of stop strike the around four-month-old strike on Thursday. Barring a last-minute change, the National Government Committee of ASUU will match on Thursday night to think about the positioning of the congresses of the over 50 public universities base on the present offer made by the Federal government to revamp the institutions.
The  union met with  a Federal Government group led by President Goodluck Jonathan last Tuesday in Abuja.

ASUU strike: Forcing us to re-open varsities will complicate matter– ASUU warns FG



AS the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities enters the fourth month, the union has flayed alleged plans by the Federal Government to forcefully order the re-opening of the universities today, saying this may only complicate the situation.

Chairperson of the Uniport chapter of ASUU, Professor Anthonia Okerengwo, urged the Federal Government to toe the path of honour in its effort towards resolving the lingering strike.

Just In: ASUU Strike "Will End Today" - Pres. Jonathan



There were clues that after today's meeting between Leader Goodluck Jonathan and the Academic Team Union of Universities (ASUU), the four month strike of the lecturers might eventually end.
The meeting began at about 2:30 pm in Abuja. It had in attendance the Leader, the Vice Leader, ministers of knowledge and labour. The ASUU was presented by their Chairman, Doctor Fagge, and other people of the executive of the Union. The Leader of Nigerian Labour Congress, Mallam Abdulwaheed Omar, was also there.

While trading pleasantries with the ASUU delegation, Leader Jonathan mentioned:
"I really hope that strike will end today. Our youngsters have suffered enough. We ought to locate a solution."

ASUU Strike: Female Students In Kaduna Forced Into Prosti-tution



While it can be agreed that the seemingly unending Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike is beginning to take a toll on students, the fact that female students in Kaduna are now resorting to pros-titution is becoming a source of worry.

Reports have revealed that the number of s-ex workers in the state has shot up since the strike action.

Just In: End ASUU Strike Now - President Jonathan.




President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the government delegation in the ongoing discussion with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to take immediate action to end the ASUU strike.
"The continued disruption of academic activities of our students have to stop as it is unacceptable, the President added.
