A complainant, Joy Dominic on Thursday got more than what she bargained for as she broke down in tears at the Upper Customary Court, Daura road, Kaduna, when the court ordered her boyfriend to be remanded in police custody.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Joy had dragged the boyfriend, Mohammed Ashafa to the court for allegedly beating her and “causing grievous hurt&rdq.

Apparently Joy had initially visited Kabala Doki Police Station, Kaduna on 15 October at about 8 p.m accusing her boyfriend, Ashafa of beating and leaving her with a swollen face after an argument.
The case was then delivered to the court by police prosecutor, Sgt Dare Komolafe.
In accordance with Komolafe who told the court that the complainant had left her hand bag containing trousers, a shirt and make-up kits with the accused and when she went to retrieve it he allegedly beat her up.
Joy had said in her testimony ahead of the court that Ashafa had no reason to hurt her.
“I had to visit his house to retrieve the bag; he escorted me to the bus stop but on reaching there he started beating me for no reason,” she said.
Ashafa decided to the charge against him, when his plea was taken and the presiding officer, Mrs Dorothy Inwulale, granted him bail in the amount of N30,000.
Joy immediately broke down and wept, begging the court never to detain her boyfriend when the presiding officer, Inwulale ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody until he meets the bail condition.
Her plea and the case adjourned till 20 November, for continuation of hearing.
