Islamic group wins: Miss World pageant moved out of Jakarta to Bali
Days after an Islamic group staged a protest against the organizers of the 2013 Miss World pageant, demanding that the pageant should not be held in Jakarta as it runs against their culture, the pageant organizers have been forced to move the final of the pageant to Bali - where they said today that it would be 'impossible' to stage the finale there, because of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, where world leaders and thousands of officials are expected to attend. The summit begins at the beginning of October while the pageant is scheduled to take place on September 28.

Wonderful: Blind student wins 2.1 Million Naira in essay competition
A blind student of Ihuogbe Junior Secondary School, Benin City, Edo State, Master Lucky Emmanuel has been rewarded with a cash prize of N2.1 million for emerging first in the junior category of this year’s edition of the annual Kenneth Imansuangbon Essay Competition.
The competition, which according to the organizer was open to all students from JSS I to SSS III across the federation, held in four designated centres of Benin City, Uromi and Ibillo, all in Edo State and Abuja.
Emmanuel, who initially won the first prize of N100, 000 with a laptop computer, was further rewarded with N2 million by the Chairman, Parents/ Teachers Association of Pacesetters College, Wuse, Abuja, Alhaji Bichi Yar’Adua.
This year’s competition, which is titled; Politics, Peace and Unity, attracted 227 students from both private and public schools. While Emmanuel won in the junior category, Edobor Precious, a student of University Preparatory Secondary School, Benin City, won the first prize in the senior category for the third time running.

Congratulations: Nigerian writer Tope Folarin wins Caine writing prize
Two Nigerians have won the prestigious Caine Prize for African Writing two years in a row. Last year, Nigerian writer, Rotimi Babatunde, won the prize for his story Bombay's Republic - a book about Nigerian soldiers who fought in the Burma campaign during World War II. And this year, another Nigerian has won. His name is Tope Folarin, a US-based writer. He won the prize for his story - Miracle - a short story set in an evangelical Nigerian church in Texas. Tope, who was shortlisted with three other Nigerians and a Sierra Leonean for the prize, received $15,000 at an event that held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

65-year-old grandma wins beauty contest in Brazil (PHOTO)
A 65-year-old grandmother topped a list of Brazil’s most beautiful elderly women, according to a statement released by contest organizers in Brazil.
Gisele Bundchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, and Camila Alves, are all on a list of beautiful women in Brazil. Now, is the time to add 65-year-old grandmother Irenilda de Oliveira Meneses to that list.
The gorgeous grandmother beat out 200 other women last week to win the crown of the most beautiful woman in Brazil, among the elderly. The woman, who was nicknamed Barbie by her friends, wore a long dress and a big smile, at the event. She was one of the 25 finalists selected to compete in the beauty pageant in Sao Paulo, which was open to women 60 years or older.

Séxless Marriage: Man Wins Refund Of Dowry
A Nigerian court based in the capital Abuja has ordered a 16-year-old girl, Maryam Suleiman, and her parents to refund N570,000(about $4,000) to her husband, Mukailu Naibi, over a fraudulent marriage.
The judge in the Area Court sitting in Lugbe, Haruna Masanawa, ruled that Suleiman and her parents must refund the money to Naibi within 30 days. Masanawa also ordered that Naibi’s estranged wife, who had filed for divorce, must remain married to him pending the full refund of the amount.

Christopher Katongo Wins BBC African Player Of The Year 2012
Zambia captain Christopher Katongo has won the 2012 BBC African Player of the Year Award following a period of online voting and text messaging from fans. The 30-year-old faced stiff opposition from the likes of Demba Ba, Didier Drogba, Younes Belhanda and Yaya Toure but won a little over 40% of the votes. He also becomes the first winner from southern Africa to win this award. Speaking to BBC immediately after the announcement, the Zambian legend was full of praise as he thanked those who recognised his hardwork and voted for him.
