Unemployed graduates in Nigeria to receive ₦19k monthly allowance?

That's just what a committee at the on-going National Conference is suggesting...for all unemployed graduates in Nigeria to earn a regular allowance comparable to the allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps, which is N19,800. Punch reports that the conference's Committee on Law, Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Reform made the recommendation but it can only fall through if it's accepted by the Federal Government.  A person in the committee said the recommendation was one of the ways the committee members felt that crime might be reduced in the country. He told Punch;
"The recommendation is our own way of finding solutions to the rising wave of crime in the country and to also force the government to do the needful for the increasing number of unemployed graduates in the country. We have done our part and it is left for the delegates to either reject or accept it at plenary.”
Who thinks it's a good idea?

Law Graduates Earn As Low As 15K Monthly Salary In Nigeria

Many young lawyers in Nigeria today are being exploited by their employers, who are mostly senior lawyers. The story of these people who study for about six years for a Degree in Law is very pathetic.
“I was earning a monthly salary of N5,000 during my NYSC service year. I was being paid N10,000 monthly at my second law firm and N20,000 at both my third and fourth law firms.
“Currently, I am not on any salary. The job in those firms were so demanding. I was working without stop, usually from 8am to 7pm or occasionally longer hours from Monday to Saturday!”
Rachael [name withheld], obtained her first law degree from the University of Ilorin and was called to the bar in 2008. Now she just realised that she missed the point thinking that her venture for a further study abroad would give her a better life as a young lawyer in Nigeria.

SEE Why many graduates don’t get jobs, years after graduation’

Dr. Tunji Daodu, Provost, College of Health Technology, Ilese, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, is also the Chairman of Provosts of Colleges of Health Technology in Nigeria. He is a consummate administrator and Fellow, Royal Society of Health, London. He tells TON in this interview, why prospective undergraduates should embrace health related-courses and why the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) should include specialised institutions in its schedules, among other issues. Excerpts:
It seems that the college of health technology is not appealing to many prospective undergraduates in the country. Why is this so?
That is a good observation and the reason is simple. One, until about seven years ago, the certificate awarded by colleges of health technology was lower in status to that of the polytechnics but the two are now equivalent to each other. Another factor is that colleges of health technology do not enjoy media attention like universities and regular polytechnics.
