The dilemma of Nigeria's younger generation

"Over the years, at least for the past 35?years, the value system inculcated by our so - called political leaders and religious leaders has totally truncated the future of our youths. The educational system was defiled and defaced in this period. Wanton corruption and worship of money and material things by our so - called leaders has been the order of the day, so why are we blaming and piling the rot of this decadent and deteriorated system on the youngsters.

The system has thrown up the failure of these youngsters, and not the youngsters being the cause of their own failure!! Nigeria has failed to properly invest in her youths. Youths have no investment in the system and the system has ruined them; therefore, the reason why they have floundered over the years; at least over the past 36 years.

#1 of Top 10 Signs You’ve Been In Nigeria For Too Long

1. You develop a sixth sense

Nigerians can smell anything fishy, especially when it has to do with a business deal. In the same manner they can recognize a good deal or an opportunity when they see one. If you try to behave like a Nigerian when you haven’t really learnt how to be one, you may end up becoming the victim. Like we say “cunny man die, cunny man bury am” and ‘cunny’ is our way of saying ‘cunning’.

#2 of Top 10 Signs You’ve Been In Nigeria For Too Long

2. You become a hustler

Nigerians don’t just thrive, they hustle. At any stage of our lives, whether we are awaiting admission to a higher institution or just graduating, the ‘hustle’ stays on our minds. And just in case you’re wondering, hustle in Nigeria refers to the innate struggle we have for survival and the many schemes we come up with to achieve it.

Who Are The “Evil People Worrying” Nigerians?

– By Paul Omoruyi
Some weeks ago, I had a very interesting discussion with a Nigerian lady who just immigrated to the United States. Sitting in their plushy living room decked with resplendent African Arts, her husband and I talked about Nigeria’s affairs while she graciously prepared mouth-watery bitter leaf soup and pounded yam. Intermittently, she would passionately interject into the conversation expressing her opinions about Nigeria.
Out of the blues, she yelled “why would they allow people to know?” shaking her head rather pathetically. A Celebrity Entertainment TV show had just announced that a renowned American star might be pregnant. “Evil people go spoil that piking for her belle now”, she said.
