In the year 2014, Nigerian youths who use smartphones, digital cameras, and some of who have probably flown in aircrafts, drive cars, being driven in cars and trains, who have refrigerators at home and most probably have access to computers, the internet and the social media....

...accused an 80-year old woman of being a witch, who had turned herself into a black bird and flown from Ibadan to Lagos.

They descended on her and beat her to a pulp.


They attempted to take her life, but were stopped by the actions of another aged man who most probably does not use computers or even the social media.

Press release: Nigerian Army denies allegation of genocide in Borno

The Defence Headquarters has released a statement denying a claim today by a Kaduna-based cleric, Dr. Ahmad Gumi, that there is genocide going on in Borno where security forces/vigilante groups round up young men and kill them in a field for allegedly being Boko Haram members. (Read here).
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has found the latest allegation of genocide against the Nigerian military by a Kaduna based cleric as not only diversionary but unfortunate.
 "The DHQ wishes to unequivocally dissociate the Nigerian military from any involvement in the alleged genocide as depicted in the graphic pictures which appeared in the front page of Blueprint newspapers of 22 May 2014 edition entitled, “Alleged Killing field in Borno”. Continue...

The managing director of "Half of a Yellow Sun " Biyi Bandele writes about the Nigerian Movie & Video Censors Table refusing to provide certification for the film to be shown in Nigerian cinemas.

When I heard last month that the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, headquartered in Abuja, had indicated that it would be unable to issue certification for "Half of a Yellow Sun" in time for the film's release date, I naturally assumed, at first, that what we were faced with was nothing more sinister than another instance of the typical, if frustrating, culture of wilful incompetence that we'd grappled with during the making of the film -- while shooting the film in Nigeria two years ago, there were times when we felt ensnared in impenetrable jungles of red tape, when we would be given the go-head by one arm of the government only to find our path blocked by the other arm.

Niger state cancels Children' Day & Democracy Day celebrations

The Niger state government today May 22 cancelled the forthcoming Children's Day and Democracy Day celebrations in the state. According to the state's Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Danladi Ndayebo, the celebration was cancelled because of the missing Chibok girls and the security situation in the country.

Briefing newsmen in his office, Alhaji Danladi Ndayebo said the Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Bababngida directed that both days be utilized to pray for the girls along with the nation 

"Owing to the security situation in the country, Gov. Babangida Aliyu has directed that this year’s Children’s Day and Democracy Day be used to seek God’s face and intervention for the nation. The Ministry for Gender Affairs and Social Development will mobilise children on that day across the state to pray for the release of the girls abducted by Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno State.” he said

52 year old Imo state born Onyejiaju Augustine was arrested yesterday by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for carrying  2.605 kilogrammes of cocaine packed as candies. He was arrested at the  Murtala Mohammed International Airport as he was planning to smuggle the illegal drug out from the country en-route Etihad, Punch reports.  

 NDLEA spokesman Michelle Ofoyeju said Onyebuchi had been on the wanted list of the agency 

"Augustine, who is a specialist in drug had earlier departed Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the illicit drug disguised as candies. He was, however, caught at the MMIA in Lagos.”

He sent a request to Rihanna's table for a meet-and-greet cos his fiancée is her big fan.

But Rihanna rejected his request. Charlie got so vexed he sought relief by exploding on Twitter, slamming Riri.

Nigerian Beautiful singer Waje recent opened up about her life, work and daughter. In the interview she granted to The Net, she also revealed why she is still single and the hardship of getting a life partner.
Excerpts: When asked why she is still single she said:

"I don't know why, but I feel God has a way of doing things. I have so much on my hands now, let that matter rest for now, let me not go and marry now before my husband says he wants pounded yam, cooked by his wife not a maid. Then I will leave everything I am doing and I will be pounding yam. But when somebody who understands my kind of person and my job comes along, then it will be easier for me. After all the troubles of the day, the traffic, somebody getting you angry, there should be that one person who can calm you. Everybody would love to have somebody as a companion, so do I."

Orezi Explains Why Artistes Don’t Make Money From Albums

An up and coming artiste, Orezi, who is now making waves in the Nigerian music industry, has express his sadness over the way marketers reduce their earnings through the sale of their albums.
According to the artiste, the reason why musicians don’t make money from albums is because it involves making arrangement with marketers for a pay off or percentage of proceeds from the album sales.

Orezi stated that most Nigerian artistes usually settle for pay off which may not exceed N5m at most.  He added that despite these challenges, albums increase acceptance, popularity and fan base of the artiste, which is where the money comes from.

As you wind down on the final year of your administration, I have decided to draw your attention to one of the challenges that make Lagos one of the most hazardous places to live in the world. The menace of noise pollution in this city is one issue I believe your administration must pay close attention to beyond the current half-hearted approach of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of the Environment.

The danger of a scourge that has made Lagos to be lowly ranked on the Liveable City Index certainly demands a more aggressive approach. As you would have noticed in my introduction, my concern was to first ask after your health condition. This is because I believe that since you live among us, you are also affected by the chaos this city has become. I know that as you go about your official duties, you are also not immune from the nuisance of noise pollution.

Someone who goes on the name @uyyii on instagram has been attacking Adaeze Igwe Yobo, wife of footballer Joseph Yobo, claiming she's Joseph's mistress. Genevieve explained that she was born and raised Catholic and she doesn't want divorce.

Segun Arinze tells NFVCB boss to step down over Half Of A Yellow Sun

A couple weeks ago, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's book Half of a Yellow Sun was hitting our cinema screens...but it was stopped. I heard the main reason it was removed was because of the theme of the movie, the Hausa killing Ibo/biafra war story and because of the current situation in Nigeria, some scenes were asked to be cut from the movie by the Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board. I don't know if the scenes have now been cut or what precisely is going on today, but NFVCB has still refused to allow movie show in the cinemas.
