Boko Haram is a common enemy – Shehu of Borno
Nigerians have been advised to see Boko Haram as a common enemy and not an attempt by Muslims to Islamise or divide the country. Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai, gave the advice on Thursday. Garbai, who is a member of the Inter Religious Council of Nigeria, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri.
He said, “Boko Haram is not a deliberate attempt by Muslims to attack Christians; if it is, they would not have attacked me. If it is a question of targeting only Christians, 13 of my district heads, two council members and many other Muslims would not have been killed.
“The Emirs of Fika and Kano are Muslims, yet they were attacked by the sect, who also killed many other Muslims leaders.’’
He said some Christians worked in his office and some were traditional title holders in his palace, adding that he held regular meetings with the Christian community in the state.

Abacha’s daughter under fire for attacking - Wole Soyinka
Gumsu, one of the daughters of the late maximum ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha, has taken to Twitter to snarl abuse at Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka. She described the iconic writer as an “empty professor”, accusing him of assuming the role of a critic in the Nigerian polity because of financial gains.
Though the reason behind the Twitter rant could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, her earlier message in a tweet had stated, “Do the thing you fear the most. If there’s one thing that will change your thoughts quicker than anything else, it’s facing your fears.”

A New York police officer was busted for sleeping with a 16-year-old girl. Peter Ciollo, 29, was caught red-handed, when his wife walked into their house and found him in bed with the teenager.
Ciollo of Staten Island, New York, allegedly gave the teen alcohol before going to bed with her, authorities said. Ciollo was off duty, when he allegedly targeted the 16-year-old victim during the weekend of July 4th.
Ciollo allegedly partied with two 16-year-olds before engaging in “multiple sexual acts” with the victim at his house, which lasted until 2:00 am, Staten Island prosecutor Victoria Levin said.

A restaurant must decide what their chest move is after the city banned it from allowing their waitresses to wear body paint while serving food.
After complaints to police about the waitress’ attire (or lack thereof) at Redneck Heaven restaurant, in Texas, the city council voted to change an ordinance so that it’s now illegal for women to cover their br**sts with just body paint. A woman at Monday night’s council meeting voiced her concerns.
“We’re quite shocked to see these young ladies weren’t dressed,” Catherine Holliday said. “They had very scant bottoms on and their tops were painted. It’s a restaurant that’s between two family restaurants.”
It’s unclear what the so-called “breastaurant’s” reaction will be, but if management wants its waitresses to keep wearing body paint, it’ll have to apply for a Sexually Oriented Business permit.

THE World Health Organisation, WHO, has said 77 per cent of women in Nigeria use skin-lightening products, the world’s highest percentage. The figure compares with 59 per cent in Togo, and 27 per cent in Senegal.
The WHO report said the reasons for this are varied but most people said they use skin-lighteners because they want “white skin”. WHO also said skin bleaching comes with hazardous health consequences. The dangers associated with the use of toxic compounds for skin bleaching include, blood cancers such as leukemia and cancers of the liver and kidneys, as well as severe skin conditions. It said hardcore bleachers use illegal ointments containing toxins like mercury, a metal that blocks production of melanin, which gives the skin its colour, but can also be toxic.
