According to Thanh Nien News, education authorities in a central Vietnamese province have dismissed eighth-grade student Nguyen Thanh Vy for “insulting her school and teachers” and “distorting history” after she parodied President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for national resistance against the French in 1946 in her Facebook page. Here are a few excerpts that got Nguyen on a one-year suspension:

Charlie Sheen is covering a huge chunk of the funeral costs for the paparazzi who died while covering Justin Bieber … cutting a $12,000 check to the photographer’s family. 29-year-old Chris Guerra died after being struck by a car in Los Angeles on New Year’s Day while taking pictures of Bieber’s car. Guerra will be laid to rest in a private service set for tomorrow.

Reigning Afro hip hop act, Iyanya Mbuk who was accused by popular show organizer, Opa Williams of defrauding him to the tune of N1.7 million being payment for the singer's performance at "Nite of A Thousand Laughs' shows which held recently in Benin and Port-Harcourt, has reacted to the allegation.
Iyanya who was compelled to address the press last Tuesday following the allegation denied the arrest of his Manager. Though, he admitted that the police invited them, he said they didn't spend close to 1-hour at the police station before they were allowed to go their way.

Violence erupts on the London Underground after an argument between a white woman and a black teenager gets out of hand. Video footage captured on a mobile phone shows the pair arguing after the woman accused the man of stepping on her foot. The two exchange insults, with the woman calling him a 'smelly Nigerian' before he calls her a 'white princess'. 15-Year-Old Girl Married Off To 70-Year-Old Man By Parents At ₦3m

A 70-year-old man and a 15-year old girl were married in Saudi Arabia after the girl’s parents reportedly sold her to the man for $20,000 (N3.1m). According to CNN, the marriage was made public after the man filed a complaint that his wife had been returned to her parents who are Yemeni and Saudi, and that he had been swindled. Authorities believe the young girl may have gotten into a physical altercation with her elderly husband, which prompted her return home.The case has prompted members of the Human Rights Commission as well as other activist groups to further their push for setting a minimum age for betrothal in these countries. They have proposed that anyone under the age of 18 get legal consent to marry. This has been met with longstanding resistance from conservative religious groups. [VN]

Anambra State Government is determined to shrug off the nightmare of the abysmal performance of its contingent to the last National Sport Festival in Lagos. To this end, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Edozie Aroh, has said that the state was getting to the grassroots and schools to raise a generation of sportsmen and women that will take the state to sports glory in the near future. Aroh said the state’s team to the National School Sports Festival in Port Harcourt would move into camp next week. Anambra finished 30th in the national sports festival with three silver and two bronze.

A 42-year-old pastor, Peter Ododa of the Holy Family Prayer Ministry, New Karu, Nasarawa State, yesterday appeared before Justice Vincent Gwahenba of Mararaba Upper Area Court for the alleged abduction of one Grace Okpara.  Counsel to Mr. Nnamdi Okpara, the complainant and husband of Grace, Mr. Sunday Ijiga, told the court that the accused abducted his client’s wife sometime in 2010, saying the complainant got married to Grace in March, 2008 and shortly after their wedding, Grace discovered the church and introduced her husband to the accused.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Tuesday confirmed The PUNCH’sstory that the Federal Government’s subsidy account with the Central Bank of Nigeria was empty, blaming the situation on technical hitches in the documentation with the CBN. Okonjo-Iweala, while briefing journalists in Abuja, said the transfer of funds meant for fuel subsidy payments from the excess crude dollar account to its naira equivalent accounted for the empty account.
