Islamic group wants separate camps for male and female corps members

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to stop mixing males and females in the National Youth Service Scheme physical exercise at orientation camps as it violates Islamic tenets and offends the sensibilities of Muslims.  This JNI Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar, said this at the end of a peace and unity conference for Muslim scholars in Kaduna State.

Abubakar called on the NYSC to respect the decency and chastity of female corps members during physical exercises and other activities at the orientation camps, and provide alternative camps for female Muslim corps members.

1138 condemned prisoners on death row – Research

No fewer than 1,138 condemned prisoners are presently on the death row in the country, National Mirror investigations have showed.

National Mirror gathered that of this figure, 1,119 convicts are males while 19 are females as at April 30, this year.

Statistics obtained from the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS, also revealed that the 145 prisons in the country had a total capacity to accommodate 47, 284 prisoners, but the inmate population as at that date is 53,816.

A breakdown of this figure showed that the males have a total inmate population of 52,707 while the females are 1,109.

The statistics also indicated that the total number of Awaiting Trial Persons, ATPs, is 37,429 out of which 36,540 inmates are males and 889 females.

Artist Tunde Ednut Involved in Car Accident on His way to Visit ill OJB Jezreel

Fast-rising singer and comedian, Tunde Ednut was reportedly involved in a car accident on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Reports claimed that the singer was on his way to visit music producer, OJB Jezreel – who is presently in need of about N15million for a kidney transplant – when the accident occurred. Eye witnesses claim that a taxi rammed into the singer’s car, damaging a side of the vehicle. Tunde was formerly a comedian based in the UK until he returned to Nigeria to pursue a music career.

Four Soldiers Beat A Police Corporal To Coma - What Do You Think ?

A police Corporal was, beaten to coma by four soldiers in Bauchi

State adhering to a minor misunderstanding between the army and
the authorities in the state. The policeman, Abbas Haladu was said to have met the soldiers  who barricaded the entrance resulting in the Emir's palace near the Roundabout at about 7am if they descended on him,
beating him mercilessly.  Source gathered that Haladu's left hand was reportedly broken  by the soldiers allegedly led by a Sergeant.  In accordance with Source,the soldiers had barricaded the trail at about  8pm on Tuesday as a protection measure to forestall any breakdown  of law and order. 

It absolutely was learnt that Corporal Haladu who was in mufti was stopped from likely to the Emir's palace where he was posted to commence duty for the day.  Trouble started for the corporal when he was asked by the soldiers
to spot himself which he did, but the soldiers on duty have been already    reportedly angry insisted he wouldn't go through the barricade to the Emir's palace.

Unbelievable: Disabled, one other arraigned for robbery

Twenty-eight-year-old, physically challenged man, Yahya Dogo and one Moses Kikame (26-yr) were yesterday arraigned before a Lagos High Court for allegedly stealing jewellery valued at N100, 000.

The duo who were charged before Justice Christopher Balogun are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery. State counsel, Mr W.A Quadri told the court that the defendants have no particular means of livelihood.

Information on the charge sheet revealed that Kikame and Dogo committed the offence on June 3, 2011 at Lester Pharmacy, Ado-Odo, Ajah, Lagos at 8.00 p.m.

Kikame and Dogo attacked one Mr Lucky Amadiuche while armed with a gun and disposed him of his gold chain valued at N100, 000. They however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.

SCANDALOUS WEDDING: Deeper Life Suspends Kumuyi’s Son and Wife

leadership of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has suspended the son of the General Superintendent of the church and his wife, John and Love Kumuyi from carrying out any activity in the church over their recent controversial wedding in Jamaica.

John and Love wedded in Jamaica on 15 June, 2013 and thousands of members of the church have reacted sharply while condemning the wedding gown worn by the wife and other aspects of the wedding that were at variance with the church’s standard. She was decked in attires quite different from the acceptable standard set for Deeper Life members by the church.

Love was arrayed in flowing gown with a veil to match, while lots of people said her hairwasn’t natural and that she applied lipstick as part of the make-up. Also at issue was the hiring of a Limousine which conveyed the couple to their destination after the wedding. And a huge cake was cut during the wedding contrary to the church’s tradition.

Nurses Protest against Soldier Brutality In Ondo

Nurses at the Ondo State Specialists’ Hospital, Akure under the aegis of the Ondo State Chapter of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), have staged a peaceful protest over the attack on one of their colleagues by a military officer. 
The Soldier had taken his colleague who sustained gunshot injuries during the attack by gunmen at the Olokuta Medium Security Prison, Akure to the hospital for treatment.  However, trouble started when an argument ensued between the Soldier and the Nurse, named Adeyemi Adeniyi which led to the Soldier brutalizing the Nurse.  The Nurse who sustained severe injuries is presently receiving treatment at the hospital. The Nurses abandoned their duty posts carrying placards with various inscriptions expressing their grievances and calling for the Soldier who brutalized their colleague to be brought to book.

Addressing the protesting Nurses, the Chief of Staff of the 32 Artillery Brigade of The Nigerian Army Base in Akure, Colonel Mohammed Zubairu apologised to the Nurses on the incident, assuring them that the army authorities will ensure that justice is done in the matter.

Ma’am, thanks for looking out for me, but let me state categorically, that I Eucharia Anunobi, now Evangelist, have moved from the things don’t matter, to the thing that matters more, which is the work of my Father, who created me and made me an instant STAR, when I least expected it in my life.

I would never want to be remembered as someone who graced all the front pages of all the Newspapers and News Magazines in the world and did not contribute to the leading of people towards heaven.

There were reports that Ini Edo paid the sum of N2million, D'Banj (N7million), 2Face (N1.5million), Olamide (N1million) and Ice Prince (N500,000), which the committee claimed are not true.

A Lagos High Court presided over by Justice Christopher Balogun yesterday admitted as exhibits, three laptops and two internet modems tendered as evidence in a case of internet fraud and obtaining money by pretext filed against suspected fraudsters (a.k.a Yahoo boys). The suspects, Chris Nwaigwe (34), Farouk Balogun (28), Fawas Animashaun (29), Damilola Ali (28) and Olasunkanmi Banire (27), were first arraigned on October 31, 2012 on a 21-count charge bordering on forgery, obtaining money by pretext and internet fraud.

The defendants were alleged to have on April 27, 2012 within the Ikeja Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, conspired to obtain $210,000,00 equivalent of N53,577.597 million from one Kabiru Sanni. While admitting the exhibits, Balogun dismissed the objection of the defence counsel and ordered that items be taken as evidence.
