Man runs amok in Lagos, Stabbing people at sight

Hell was let loose recently in Lagos when a 30-year-old man identified as Kehinde Akinpelu ran amok, armed with a sharp knife, threatening to kill anybody at sight.  The incident which took place at Oloja area of Bariga in Lagos made people living in the street to scamper for safety in different directions.

Unfortunately, a 69-year-old woman, Titilayo Adekoya who lives at number 27 in that street could not escape before the man pounced on her and stabbed her severally.  It took the timely intervention of a team of policemen on patrol and agile neighbours to stop the man from severing her body into pieces.

Couple buy twin Babies for N1.8 Million

Operatives at the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) in Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested a couple, who allegedly bought twin babies and attempted to smuggle them out of the country.

 

Adenuga Soyibo and his wife Elizabeth allegedly bought the babies for N1.8million from a woman in Rivers State. The Police said yesterday that they were yet to trace the baby trader’s location.

The couple were arrested following a tip-off on April 15 by the American Consulate. The Police said the Consulate reported that the couple applied for American visas and their application was deferred on the suspicion that the babies they claimed to be theirs appeared to have been stolen.

Prophet Charles Osazuwa, the General Overseer of Rock of Ages Christian Assembly, recently said that God told and showed him that President Goodluck Jonathan should not contest the presidency in 2015. He (the president) should also vacate Aso Rock by that time.

The total cost of private jets acquired by Nigerians has been put at $3.75bn (N581bn), just as stakeholders say the number of such planes in the country has now reached 150.

On the average, each jet costs $25m, and are registered either locally and or in countries such as South Africa or the United States for various reasons.

The rising numbers of private jet acquisitions by businessmen, religious leaders and politicians has placed Nigeria as the leading market in Africa according to the Managing Director, GTBank Plc, Mr. Segun Agbaje.

Speaking at the Nigerian Business Aviation Conference 2013 in Lagos yesterday, Agbaje noted that the most popular jets common among Nigerians billionaires are Gulfstream, Bombardier, Global Express, Hawker Legacy and Dassault Falcon.

An 18-year-old girl had her stomach removed after drinking a cocktail at a bar, according to reports.  Authorities say the British teenager has had her stomach removed after she ingested a cocktail made with liquid nitrogen, an exotic ingredient often used by waitresses at bars to add a touch of excitement to their drinks.

British news media said 18-year-old, Gaby Scanlon was out with friends on Thursday night in the northern city of Lancaster, England, when she was hospitalized after having a drink prepared with liquid nitrogen, super cooled version of the harmless gas.  The liquid nitrogen evaporates rapidly at room temperature, creating a special effect as warmer water condenses around the glass.

A Petty trader, Mrs. Rose Abbey got what she didn’t bargain for when she was allegedly detained in a Micro Finance Bank at Ipaja area of Lagos, for failing to pay a weekly N2,000 earlier agreed on towards offsetting the N17,000 loan she borrowed from the bank.

It was alleged that she was abducted and beaten up before she was locked up in a room at the bank located at 170/ 172, Ipaja Road Baruwa on April 25.  She was, however, released three days later.  Before then, she was allegedly neither allowed to have access to members of her family nor given food.  The housewife who hails from Edo state later regained her freedom, after her friend paid the N2,000 to the bank.

Two Danish boys, 6 and 7, steal car and go for a joy ride

Two little boys saw nice looking cars that all the big boys drive as too tempting not take take one out on a joy ride, according to a statement released by police in Denmark.

Danish police said two children, ages 6 and 7, stole a car from their apartment complex parking lot, and went for a joy ride.

Investigators said the boys, from the city of Falster Nykobing, escaped from the 24 hour secured facility through a window and stole the keys to a Toyota Aygo which belongs to the facility.

After spending almost two years in prison for attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion, US rapper Ja Rule has been released from prison. Ja Rule was released from Ray Brook Federal Prison in New York today Tuesday May 6th but will remain on home confinement until July 28th. Ja Rule was sentenced to two years in prison for attempted criminal possession of a weapon and 28 months for tax evasion. He served both sentences concurrently.

The pop star vomited several times on stage during a concert over the weekend in Barcelona, Sunday, uploaded video appears to show.

Lady Gaga was performing "The Edge of Glory", with a backup dancer when she seems to lose her lunch three times. In the beginning, FESTAC Town was a purely residential estate. Originally referred to as Festival Town or FESTAC village, it is found along the Lagos – Badagry Expressway in Lagos.

It derives its name from the second World African Festival of Arts and Culture held in Nigeria in 1977. Participants in the festival were given accommodation in the housing units, which were later allocated to winners, who emerged through a ballot. But FESTAC Town is no longer what it used to be. It has lost its past glory in more ways than one.

A woman named Harrina Alexandria Dembele claimed a few weeks back that she's the legal wife of Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo. Harrina is a US based model, actress and nurse and actually released a marriage certificate as evidence of the secret marriage. Harrina said they got married March 11th 2013 in Virginia, USA. John denied the reports, describing it as ridiculous.

British-Nigerian Femi Oke to host Al Jazeera's The Stream

International broadcaster Femi Oke has been revealed as the new host of Al Jazeera English’s hit social media show The Stream.

The former BBC, Sky and CNN journalist will take over presenting duties from Monday 6^th May. Femi has been based in the US since 1999 and spent nine years anchoring and reporting for CNN in Atlanta. She was host for the programme Inside Africa, which she also helped launch. For the last five years she has been a senior editor and host at the largest NPR affiliate in the US, WNYC.

Bishop David Benenoch withdraws divorce petition

Months after filing for divorce from his wife of twenty years and mother of his three children, Bishop David Benenoch, the founding pastor of Communion Church, has withdrawn his divorce petition.

Bishop Benenoch announced to his congregation during a service on Saturday September 15th 2012 that he was divorcing his wife, Esther Benenoch and there was no going back because it was an instruction from God.
